Your role in the story
As Technical Superintendent Tugs & Barges, you provide technical support for our tugs, barges and specific equipment used across Heerema’s offshore projects. One day you may be on board supervising repair and maintenance activities, while the next you are back in the office coordinating maintenance, inspections or an upcoming investment project.
That variety is an important part of this role. You use your technical knowledge and practical experience with vessel repair and maintenance, equipment inspections and classification requirements to help keep our assets safe, reliable and ready for operation.
You identify critical maintenance periods and investment needs and work closely with the Asset Equipment Manager, Vessel Management Teams and Operational Managers to translate these into realistic plans while minimizing downtime.
This is a role for someone who likes to take ownership and get things moving. You know when to push for progress, when to bring people together and you don't easily let go when something needs to be solved. Changing circumstances don't throw you off, they are part of what makes the job interesting.
Leiden will be your home base, with the possibility to work from our Vlissingen office as well, combined with regular visits to our vessels, yards and suppliers.
What you will be working on
- Coordinate and supervise repair, maintenance and technical activities for our tugs, barges and project-specific equipment;
- Identify technical risks, critical maintenance periods and investment needs and turn them into practical plans and solutions;
- Work closely with the Asset Equipment Manager, Vessel Management Teams and Operational Managers to keep our assets safe, reliable and operational;
- Coordinate equipment inspections, classification requirements and maintenance activities, both from shore and on board;
- Take ownership of technical challenges from start to finish, balancing safety, quality, planning, operational requirements and costs.

Furthermore, you have:
- A Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent;
- Strong practical and theoretical technical knowledge and ideally around 5 years of experience in a similar role;
- Good project management and commercial skills;
- Strong communication and collaboration skills and a hands-on approach;
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and spoken, and the flexibility to travel to our vessels and other locations when required.
Your future fleet
You will work with a diverse portfolio of tugs and barges supporting Heerema's offshore operations.
Among them are Kolga and Bylgia, our 72-meter DP2 tugs, custom-built to support our crane vessel operations. Both vessels are equipped with a retractable bow thruster and have a bollard pull of 200 tons. Their anchor handling systems allow them to install anchors in water depths of up to 1,500 meters.
