  • Our History

Founded in 1948 by Pieter Schelte Heerema, the company began in Venezuela installing oil platforms.

By the 1960s, we shifted focus to the North Sea, and in 1978 pioneered semi-submersible crane vessels with Balder and Hermod. Heerema Marine Contractors was established in 1997, introducing Thialf. In 2019, we launched Sleipnir — the world’s largest and most sustainable crane vessel.
