ICT Engineer Cloud
Job Description

Job description

A strong cloud foundation is essential for our global offshore operations. As a Cloud Engineer, you design and automate Azure platforms that keep our projects, offices, and vessels connected, secure, and future‑ready.

Your role in the story:

At Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC), our global offshore projects rely on secure, scalable, and well‑engineered cloud foundations. As we strengthen our cloud‑first strategy in Azure, we are expanding our Infrastructure team with a Cloud Engineer who brings strong experience in Terraform‑based Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
In this role, you design, automate, and manage Azure cloud platforms that support our offices in Leiden, Houston, Singapore, and our offshore fleet (Aegir, Balder, Sleipnir, Thialf, Bylgia, and Kolga). Terraform is central to how we deploy, govern, and operate infrastructure, ensuring our environments are consistent, compliant, and ready for the future.
This is a hands‑on engineering role for someone who enjoys automation, modern cloud engineering, and building platforms that scale across onshore and offshore environments. The role may require occasional international and/or offshore travel to our vessels.

What you will be working on:

  • Designing, owning, and developing Azure landing zones, including governance, identity, networking, and core platform services
  • Building and maintaining Infrastructure‑as‑Code using Terraform to deliver consistent, reproducible, and policy‑compliant cloud deployments
  • Implementing Azure governance frameworks using policy‑as‑code
  • Ensuring cloud designs meet enterprise security, compliance, and data‑sovereignty requirements
  • Managing and optimizing Azure workloads such as virtual machines, containers, storage, networking, and automation services
  • Standardizing configuration and lifecycle management using Terraform
  • Monitoring performance, capacity, and availability across Azure environments
  • Performing root‑cause analysis and driving structural improvements based on operational insights
  • Supporting the Helpdesk and Infrastructure teams with cloud‑related escalations
  • Building CI/CD pipelines for automated Terraform deployments at scale
  • Supporting migration of legacy systems to Azure using Terraform‑based patterns
  • Driving modernization through automation, managed identities, and standardized templates
  • Contributing to HMC’s cloud‑first roadmap, including hybrid and global deployments

    Key ingredients for success:

  • HBO or equivalent level of education in IT, Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience operating Azure environments in a professional setting
  • Hands‑on experience designing and deploying cloud infrastructure using Terraform
  • Experience with Azure services such as Windows and Linux VMs, AVD, AKS, ACA, Application Gateways, and Azure Local
  • Experience with cloud governance, RBAC, networking, and identity management
  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, preferably Azure DevOps
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to translate functional and business needs into secure, scalable cloud solutions
  • Good communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
  • Structured working style with strong documentation habits
  • Experience in project‑driven, international, offshore, or engineering environments is an advantage

Your future colleagues:

Of course you are curious to meet us as well! In this role, you will work closely with colleagues from the Infrastructure Team within IT Operations, as well as with Security, Applications, Helpdesk teams, and engineering and project stakeholders across the organization.
