Your role in the story

At Heerema, Structural Engineering plays a critical role in enabling safe and efficient offshore operations. Our engineers design and verify temporary and permanent structures that support Transport & Installation, Decommissioning and Offshore Wind projects worldwide.

As a Senior Structural Engineer – Automation & Digitalization, you combine structural engineering expertise with a passion for improving the way engineering is performed. While maintaining a strong connection to structural design and verification, your primary focus is on driving digitalization initiatives within the Structural Engineering discipline. You help transform fragmented engineering methods into efficient, standardized and scalable solutions. Working closely with structural engineers, specialists, IT and Digital Enablement, you develop tools, workflows and data structures that improve engineering quality, consistency and productivity.

Rather than being assigned to a single project, you operate across the discipline, supporting the department's strategic ambition to create a modern engineering environment built around automation, knowledge management and data-driven decision making.

What you will be working on

  • Acting as the primary interface between Structural Engineering, Digital Enablement and IT Teams.
  • Identifying, evaluating and prioritizing digitalization opportunities based on business value and engineering impact.
  • Developing concepts and functional requirements for digital initiatives.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of engineering tools.
  • Improving engineering data, knowledge management and automated reporting capabilities.
  • Coaching engineers and driving adoption of new digital tools, standards and ways of working.

Key ingredients for success

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a comparable discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience, with a strong foundation in structural engineering and project execution.
  • Strong affinity with developing maintainable and reusable engineering software solutions. Some (Python) coding experience is a pre but not a must.
  • Ability to translate engineering needs into practical solutions involving automation, data and digital workflows.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset and drive for continuous improvement.
