Build the digital tools that empower our engineers to push the boundaries of what is possible offshore.
Your role in the story:
At Heerema, Engineering isn't just a department; it’s the heartbeat of our operation. We lift the heaviest steel, install the largest wind turbines, and decommission massive platforms. To stay ahead, we constantly push the limits of physics and optimize every single move we make. We need digital ingenuity that allows us to perform these massive feats smarter, faster, and more efficiently.
As an Automation Engineer, you are the builder behind this digital evolution. You work side-by-side with our engineers to capture their brilliance in code. You operate at the intersection of complex Engineering and robust ICT, turning physics into logic.
You understand that innovation doesn't happen in a 100-page design document. It happens by building. You take prototypes and ideas, learn rapidly from real-world usage, and turn them into modular, fit-for-purpose tools. You ensure our digital solutions are robust, tested, and ready for action.
You are the flywheel of our engineering automation. In an environment where engineers are often absorbed by the day-to-day pressure of offshore projects, you bring the dedicated focus to keep innovation moving.
You don't just support; you drive. You take ownership of automation initiatives and ensure they don't get stuck in the backlog. Because you are fully dedicated, you create the momentum needed to turn complex ideas into deployed tools. You are the force that ensures we keep accelerating, building the robust solutions that allow the whole department to go faster.
What you will be working on
- Hands-on Development: Building and refining automation tools. You take a defined problem (e.g., a stability check or a data converter) and turn it into a working, tested solution.
- Building Modules: Developing specific Python packages and "Lego blocks" that fit into our wider ecosystem. You ensure your code is clean, reusable, and fits the architecture.
- The Flywheel Effect: Keeping momentum high. You take ownership of automation projects and drive them to completion, ensuring great ideas don't stall, but become reality.
- Pure Logic: Breaking down complex physics or logistical problems into clean, atomic functions that address, high-impact engineering pain points.
- Robust Engineering: Writing code that includes tests, validation, and clear documentation. You ensure that when a tool is used offshore, it works perfectly.
Key ingredients for success
- Education: A Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science with a heart for engineering.
- Coding Mastery: Deep expertise in Python (building packages/frameworks). Knowledge of C++ is a plus.
- Engineering Affinity: You enjoy the challenge of automating physical concepts. .
- Future-Ready Skills: Familiarity with concepts like RAG or Knowledge Graphs is a plus, as we use these to structure our engineering expertise
- Builder Energy: You thrive on creating tools that didn't exist yesterday.
- Team Spirit: You enjoy working in a small, high-impact team where your work is immediately applied in the real world.
- Fluency in English: Both written and spoken.
