Your role in the story
As an Assistant Mate you start aboard one of our crane vessels and will be eventually responsible for watch keeping and navigating in accordance with "Captain's orders" and international laws and regulations. You will learn how to operate the DP system and contribute to safety activities. Furthermore you will make yourself familiar with procedures regarding the projects, heavy lifting and ISM. And also will track and update sea charts, check instruments, keep the logbook, monitor weather forecast and take timely action when necessary. As a last you are aware of the positioning of the ship, perform tasks when the ship is anchored, maintain radio contact and keep an eye on all occurring movements.
Key ingredients for success:
You have recently obtained your Bachelor degree at the Higher Maritime School, hold a license to work as an Assistant Mate and are preferably DPO certified or willing to certify. Excellent reporting skills, a practical mind and flexible attitude. The ability to communicate in a strong and clear manner, both in Dutch and English, is essential.

The application process consists of two interviews, an online assessment, and an employment offer.
- The first interview will be conducted via Microsoft Teams with the Captain and Recruiter, giving you the opportunity to learn more about the nautical aspects of the role and life on board our vessels.
- The second interview will take place at our office in Leiden, where you’ll meet additional team members and get a better feel for our culture and working environment.
