Would you like to start your electrical career on one of the world's largest crane vessels?
Your role in the story
As Assistant Electrical Maritime Specialist, you will kickstart your electrical career at sea. You’ll be trained and guided by experienced Electrical Maritime Specialists (level 1 and 2) to maintain the electrical equipment and automation systems on board our state-of-the-art crane vessels and to detect and repair malfunctions. You’ll become the ship’s go-to troubleshooter when it comes to various electrical challenges.
We’ll make sure you receive plenty of training sessions and courses to help you master our complex systems and keep your knowledge up to date, enabling you to grow into an Electrical Maritime Specialist 2, 1, or maybe even beyond!
What you will be working on

- Support senior specialists in resolving complex electrical malfunctions
- Participate in periodic testing, upgrades, and preventive maintenance
- Collaborate closely with the technical and marine departments to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations
- Continuously develop your technical expertise through dedicated Heerema training program
Key ingredients for success
- You have recently obtained your Vocational or Bachelor degree at a Maritime School and hold a minor in Ship Electronics

- A strong learning attitude and curiosity for complex maritime systems
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (spoken and written)
- A proactive and safety-conscious work approach
Curious to meet your future crew and workplace?
The electrical installations on board our crane vessels appeal to the imagination, from generators that deliver a combined 96,000 kW (enough to power a city!) to the complexity of our Dynamic Positioning systems that use GPS and multiple 5500 kW thrusters rotating 360 degrees.
On our SSCV’s, the electrical systems keep the entire vessel running safely and efficiently. At Heerema, the Electrical Department has a clear structure to ensure smooth offshore operations and seamless technical support across all systems:
Assistant Electricians (2x) → Electricians 3 (3x) → Electricians 2 (2x) → Electricians 1 (2x) → Marine Automation Engineer (1x) → Chief Electrician (1x)
All positions, except for the Chief Electrician and Marine Automation Engineer, are divided per shift to guarantee continuous 24/7 operations.
In addition to the electrical crew, you’ll work closely with our Engine Room Team, which consists of Oilers (5x) → Mechanics 2 (2x) → Mechanics 1 (2x) → Assistant Engineers (2x) → Engineers 2 (3x) → Engineers 1 (3x) → Assistant Chief Engineer (1x) → Chief Engineer (1x), and with the Stores Department, including Chief Storekeeper (1x) → Storekeeper 1 (1x) → Storekeeper 2 (2x).
Since several activities overlap with the engine room department, close collaboration between both teams is essential.
